Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
